Post-Care Instructions · Microneedling
Microneedling aftercare
How to care for your skin after microneedling with peptides — so it calms quickly, the collagen response does its work, and you get the most from every session in your series. Keep this page handy and follow each stage over the first week.

Microneedling works by creating thousands of controlled micro-channels in the skin, which triggers your body's own collagen-rebuilding response — and lets the peptide and growth-factor serum absorb far more deeply than it could on its own. Those channels close within about 24 hours, and that first day is the window where aftercare matters most. Everything below is organized by stage.
What's normal — and when to call us
Before anything else, here's how to tell an ordinary part of healing from a reason to reach out.
Normal & expected
- Redness and a warm, light sunburn feeling for about 24 hours
- Mild swelling or a tight, dry sensation on day 1
- Light flaking or fine peeling on days 2–4 as skin renews
- Skin feeling more sensitive than usual for a few days
- A temporary "glow" once the redness settles
Call us right away
- Blistering, open sores, or scabbing
- Spreading redness, warmth, pus, or fever — possible signs of infection
- Swelling that worsens rather than improves after 48 hours
- Lasting darker or lighter patches of skin
- Anything else that worries you about how the skin is healing
Healing varies from person to person. Redness on day 1 and light flaking mid-week are expected. When in doubt, call us at (470) 748-9797 — we would always rather hear from you.
Your recovery, stage by stage
Immediately after treatment
The first 24 hours
- Leave your skin alone. Don't touch, rub, or wash the treated area for the first few hours — the micro-channels are still open. Use only the serum or moisturizer we send you home with.
- No makeup for about 24 hours. This is the single most important rule of the first day. Applying makeup over open channels raises the risk of irritation and breakouts.
- Cleanse gently when you do. After the first few hours, use lukewarm water and a mild, fragrance-free cleanser with clean hands — no washcloths, brushes, or scrubbing. Pat dry.
- Hydrate, don't treat. Hyaluronic acid and a bland moisturizer are ideal. Skip every active ingredient.
- No exercise, sweating, saunas, or hot yoga. Sweat on freshly needled skin is a common cause of irritation.
- Stay out of the sun and skip hot showers for the day.
As the skin renews
Days 2–4
- Expect light flaking. Fine peeling or dryness is normal in this window. Don't pick, peel, or exfoliate it away — let it shed naturally or you risk uneven texture and pigment change.
- Keep moisturizing. A rich, fragrance-free moisturizer several times a day keeps flaking minimal and comfortable.
- Makeup is fine now (after the 24-hour mark), ideally with clean brushes and a non-comedogenic formula.
- Start daily SPF 30+ once the skin tolerates it. New skin is especially vulnerable to pigment change from sun exposure.
Through the rest of the week
The first 7 days — and until your next session
- Hold all actives for about one week. No retinoids or tretinoin, AHAs, BHAs, strong vitamin C, or physical scrubs on the treated area.
- No waxing, threading, or other facial treatments on the area while it recovers.
- Sun protection daily — broad-spectrum SPF 30+, reapplied, plus a hat if you'll be outdoors.
- Know the results timeline. The visible glow comes early, but the real work is collagen remodeling, which builds over about 3 months. A typical series is 3 to 5 sessions spaced roughly 4 weeks apart.
What to avoid while you heal
- Makeup — for the first 24 hours.
- Heat and sweat — workouts, saunas, steam rooms, hot tubs, and hot yoga for 24–48 hours.
- Active skincare — retinoids/tretinoin, AHAs, BHAs, strong vitamin C, and scrubs for about a week.
- Picking or exfoliating flaking skin — let it shed on its own.
- Sun and tanning — direct sun, tanning beds, and self-tanner on the treated area until fully settled.
